Fitosoil extends its ENAC accreditation for AdBlue® (AUS 32) analysis, adding Alkalinity and Aldehydes testing in accordance with ISO 22241-2 standard.
Alkalinity by volumetric analysis and aldehyde by spectrophotometry, technical excellence and continuous improvement of our analytical services. For this reason, we are pleased to announce the extension of the scope of our ENAC 387/LE2910 accreditation, incorporating the determination of the Alkalinity and Aldehydes parameters in the AUS 32 (AdBlue®) matrix, in accordance with the test methods established in the ISO 22241-2 standard.
This expansion strengthens our ability to offer manufacturers, distributors, logistics operators and end users a comprehensive analytical service for the verification of AdBlue®'s compliance with the requirements set out in ISO 22241.
The importance of using AdBlue® according to specification
AdBlue® is an aqueous solution composed of 32.5% high-purity urea specifically designed for Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems installed in diesel vehicles. Its function is to transform the nitrogen oxides (NOx) generated during combustion into nitrogen and water vapour, contributing decisively to the reduction of polluting emissions.
However, for this process to be carried out correctly, the product must strictly comply with the quality specifications defined in the ISO 22241 series. Even small deviations can affect the operation of the SCR system and lead to technical problems with a high economic impact.
An out-of-spec AdBlue® can cause:
- Formation of solid deposits and crystallizations.
- Obstruction of injectors and ducts.
- Damage to SCR pumps, sensors, and catalysts.
- Increase in reagent consumption.
- Loss of efficiency in reducing NOx emissions.
- Activation of alarms and vehicle protection modes.
- Costly repairs and downtime.
- Failure to comply with environmental and regulatory requirements.
Therefore, analytical control is an essential tool to guarantee product quality throughout the supply chain.
A complete service for AdBlue® quality assessment
With the expansion of our accredited scope, Fitosoil makes available to its customers a comprehensive package of tests for the evaluation of AdBlue®, covering the main parameters defined in the standard.
Percentage of urea
The urea concentration is the fundamental parameter of the product. A lower or higher content than specified may alter the dosage carried out by the SCR system, reduce the NOx reduction efficiency and generate operational incidents.
Total Nitrogen
It allows the correct concentration of urea to be indirectly verified and the chemical composition of the product to be confirmed. Deviations from expected values may indicate formulation errors or degradation.
Biuret
Biuret is a by-product generated during the manufacture of urea. High concentrations can promote the formation of deposits and negatively affect the performance of the SCR system, so its content is strictly limited.
Density
Density is a rapid control parameter closely related to urea concentration. Its determination allows the detection of formulation deviations or possible accidental dilutions.
Refractive Index
Like density, refractive index is a reliable indicator of the concentration and homogeneity of the solution. It is an additional tool to verify the quality of the product.
Insoluble matter
The presence of insoluble particles can cause clogs in filters, pumps and injectors of the SCR system. For this reason, the regulation strictly limits its content.
Heavy metals and trace elements
The presence of certain metals can contaminate the SCR catalyst and progressively reduce its NOx conversion capacity. Monitoring these elements is essential to protect high-cost components and ensure the life of the system.
Alkalinity
Alkalinity is an indicator of possible chemical contamination or alterations in the composition of the product. Values out of specification can affect the stability of the solution and favor degradation processes or incompatibility with system components.
Aldehydes
Aldehydes can originate from degradation or contamination during manufacture, storage, or transportation. Its control is important to verify the chemical purity of the product and ensure compliance with the requirements established by ISO 22241.
Commitment to accredited quality
The incorporation of the Alkalinity and Aldehyde parameters to the scope of ENAC 387/LE2910 accreditation represents a new milestone in the consolidation of Fitosoil as a reference laboratory for AdBlue® quality control.
This progress is the result of the continuous work of our technical team and our permanent commitment to expand analytical capabilities that provide confidence and security to our customers.
Accreditation ensures that tests are performed under validated procedures, appropriate equipment, and technically competent personnel, providing reliable and internationally recognized results.
